Christine Jeffryes
I am a Kent based artist with a home studio by the sea. I work with a range of media and techniques including paint, printmaking, photography and glass. From a background in textile design and a successful career in art and design education, my work reflects my passion for colour, texture and pattern.

Fused Glass Experience Days
I am now taking bookings for fused glass experiences starting in January 2024
Explore fused glass making techniques in a small, relaxed, well equipped home studio setting in Broadstairs, Kent.
Working with a maximum of three other participants you will be given a lot of individual support and guidance to design and make your own bespoke glass work. All the necessary materials and equipment are included in the price, but additional glass may be purchased on a full day course should you wish to work at a larger scale. For safety reasons you are advised to wear casual clothing and closed toed shoes in the studio. Drinks will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch if you are booked in for a whole day.
The full day experiences start at 10.00am and finish at around 4.00pm. Half day sessions usually run from 10.00am to 1.00pm. Some dates are published on the website, but vouchers can be purchased and dates for the experience arranged to suit - just send me a message.
Once complete, your glass will need to be kiln fired, so it will be ready for collection 6 - 12 days after the event depending on the type of work being produced. (Each firing will take around 12 hours and a day to cool before the kiln can be opened).
You will be notified when your glass is ready to collect, or you can arrange for it to be posted to you at cost.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- How to select, cut and combine glass safely to achieve a range of different effects.
- Basic firing schedules and how to load your work into the kiln.
- How to design and make your chosen products e.g., coasters, light catchers, jewellery, free standing ornaments, glass art etc.
- How you could present your work to show it to its best advantage once complete.

IS THE EXPERIENCE SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS?
No prior experience is necessary; just an open mind and a willingness to experiment.
IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION?
Yes, the minimum age is 12 years
DO I NEED TO BRING ANY EQUIPMENT WITH ME?
Everything is supplied, but if you have your own glass cutter or other equipment you like to use, then by all means bring it with you.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE STUDIO IS NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE.

The Pie Factory Margate will open its doors again from Friday 23rd April to Wednesday 28th April 2021, for an exhibition of work by five local artists - Christine Jeffryes, Tony Caroli, Wendy Jones, Karen H King and Sarah Stokes. Odyssey will feature work in varying styles, approaches and mediums including acrylic and watercolour paint, glass, resin and mixed media, all pulled together to produce a unique exhibition. Originally planned for April 2020, the exhibition now includes new pieces influenced by life experiences and permitted journeys along the beautiful Thanet coast. Whether it's a splash of bright colourful flowers; a joyful abstract that takes you on an imaginary journey; a series of sunlit waves; a stylized glass sculpture, or unique glass vessel, this exhibition has something to appeal to everyone. The Pie Factory will open daily from 10.30am to 5.30pm, closing at 2.00pm on 28th April.
My work will be shown as part of this 'Shoreline Creatives' exhibition at The Pie Factory in Margate. Open daily from 11.00am til 5.00pm with a late opening on Friday 30th Oct and Tuesday 3rd Nov til 8.00pm

Come along and discover the fantastic range of work produced in East Kent at this artisan makers market organised during POW! Thanet 2020 (POW stands for Power of Women and is a festival that takes place annually in this wonderful area of Kent to celebrate International Women's Day). It's also a chance to steal a glance inside the old Fire Station, an amazing building in the heart of Ramsgate.
Attend this half day class from 10.00am to 1.00pm and learn how to make beautiful bespoke festive decorations for your home. You will learn how to: cut and handle glass safely; select and combine materials creatively and prepare glass for firing. Your work will be fired and ready for collection or posting within ten days of the course. Suitable for age 12+
